The late, great Richard Dawson hosted a game show that relied upon information provided in surveys.

So do pool contractors.

Different sort of survey…

Professional engineers or surveyors create this document which tells us where we can build a pool by delineating boundaries such as property lines, easements, set-backs, build lines, utilities, fences and the house.

If required by the city or county, a survey can also provide how much of the property is covered by impervious surfaces for the critical impervious ratio (square footage of impervious surface area divided by total square footage of the property).  This is a measurement of the property’s ability to absorb water and slow down storm water surge.

All serious design work starts with the survey.

Most building departments require that the pool, spa and pool deck be drawn to scale on the survey as part of the permit application process.

If buying a home, consider requesting that the seller provide you with a survey at closing.  The only way to know what you are buying and where the pool pro can build is to know what the “SURVEY SAYS…”!
